Stone Cold Steve Austin Earrings by Body Academics

    INSTA: @bodyacademics

Body Academics is a super queer, hella Post-Internet multimedia collective currently based out of Portland and Seattle. Started by Tommy Vidosh and Jeffrey Kieser in 2013, Body Academics began life as a terribly entertaining performative noise-rap band with too many dancers but has since mutated into a vast conspiracy of content encompassing pop songs, avant-garde variety shows, lifestyle brands, short films, radio shows, memes about watching wrestling and/or Vanderpump Rules, and so much more.

In addition to writing and producing their own vibrant Hi-NRG strain of musical theater-endeared pop music that is then showcased through intricately and lovingly choreographed lo-fi stage productions, Body Academics also creates highly original visual art and fashion. Introduced in Fall 2019, Fleshtrak Season One is a selection of homemade jewelry inspired by pop culture iconography chopped and slopped through a decisively queer psychosexual lens.

Inspired by everything from Gregg Araki to Laurie Anderson, WWE to Bravo, Stephen Sondheim to Carly Rae Jepsen, and on-and-on, Body Academics strives to create True Art that connects with and validates our Greater Queer Community.

In 1902 the building we now call Jailbreak was erected as the first southeast Police Department, built on land that belongs to the Chinook, Cowlitz, and Clackamas tribes. Honoring the land we live on and the accuracy of history matters, acknowledgment matters, showing respect is required. 🌎 If you are interested in learning more about the tribes and land you have built your life on, and you would like to honor the people who came before you, the Native Land app is free, and owned and operated by the Indigenous non profit Native Land Digital. Download for iOS here and Android here.
